(NAPSI)-A great-looking yard can be accomplished more efficiently using a yard tractor. With constant upgrades and new models released annually, tractors are easier and more reliable to use than ever.

When purchasing a new tractor, it can be challenging for homeowners to know which features to look for and what benefits they offer. Identifying a few key features can help make the purchase process simple and stress-free.

According to Jason Dudarenke, product manager at Husqvarna, the primary features, and their benefits, to look for when buying a tractor include:

• Automatic transmission, known as hydrostatic drive, lets you shift the gears of the tractor without stopping or using the foot pedal. This increases the belt life of the tractor because the belt remains tight at all times.

• The electric power take-off (PTO) clutch enables you to simply pull a switch to power-up the blades. As with the automatic transmission, the belt life of the tractor is increased.

• A step through chassis design allows for easy mounting and dismounting from either side of the tractor.

• Accessories available for the tractor, such as baggers, mulch kits, blades and lawn rakes make other gardening tasks easy.

• For an engine that provides a long life, easy maintenance, reduced emissions and better fuel economy, a tractor with an over head valve (OHV) engine is the choice to make.

• Due to safety standards, many tractors will not mow when shifted into reverse, which can be an inconvenience. Look for a tractor with a reverse operating system that allows you to cut in reverse.

Knowing which features to look for will help you find the right yard tractor for your needs.
