(NAPSI)-Keeping a car or truck running smoothly doesn't always have to be a job reserved for a professional.
Armed with some know-how, a few of the right tools, and suggestions from the pros, even those who aren't mechanically inclined can perform basic and preventative maintenance.

To help make the process easier, a brochure of tips and tricks for everyday auto maintenance was developed by WD-40. Designed with the help of NASCAR Winston Cup driver Ward Burton, the Stock Car Full of Uses brochure features simple diagrams illustrating how the product can be used to clean, lubricate and protect a number of items on a vehicle.

Tips include using the lubricant to:

• Polish and shine chrome bumpers, trim, license plates, headlights and wheels

• Clean and maintain vinyl parts and restore lost oils from dashboards-which need to be treated regularly due to high sun exposure

• Drive moisture from distributor caps or other unwanted areas

• Help remove paint streaks, road tar and street oil from fenders and chassis

• Lubricate door and trunk locks to prevent them from freezing during cold weather

• Remove unwanted adhesive leftover from bumper and price stickers

• Lubricate lug nuts for easy removal

• Ease application of tire chains

• Lubricate mechanisms in automatic mirrors and windows

• Help remove tree sap and bugs from exterior

• Lubricate convertible top gear mechanisms.

The brochure is free to consumers, and available by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to WD-40 Stock Car Full of Uses, P.O. Box 881515, San Diego, CA 92168-1515.

Those interested in a sneak peek can visit the Web site at http:// wd40.com/Racing/index.html to view a thumbnail sketch of the brochure. Tips on Car Maintenance-Send in for a free how-to guide to help with the ins and outs of maintaining cars and trucks.
