(NUI) - Here is some of the vehicle security lingo you need to know when shopping for a reliable system:
Starter disable: A feature that kills the starter when ignition switch hot wiring is attempted.
Remote panic: If you see someone suspicious tampering with your vehicle, you can make the horns and alarms go off from a distance.
Plug-in dual-stage shock sensor: It sets off alarms when the window is broken or a tow truck tries to attach to your vehicle.
Code-hopping: This feature foils thieves who listen in on your arming and disarming code with electronic gear. It changes your code after each use so listening in is useless.
Chirp delete: You can silence that electronic security chirp if it annoys you or others.
Six-tone siren: It screams in six high decibel tones that are sure to drive an intruder nuts.
Do-it-yourself: Systems, made by Audiovox and others, that are uncomplicated enough to be installed by people who know how to use a voltmeter.
